DOUBLE CHECK THE DATE
Yes, as usual for Seattle, Potlatch is the last weekend in
February. However, because 2004 is a leap year, the numbers
are a little further along in the month than usual. So
please, double check the date. Thanks!
NOTES FROM THE CHAIR
If you haven't joined Potlatch 13 yet, now is a good time.
There's lots planned for this year's Potlatch, and we expect
it'll be a pleasantly memorable one. With "The Shockwave
Rider" as book of honor, a Tiptree Bake Sale, and all the
usual favorites of a Seattle Potlatch, we're all sure to have
a great time.
BANQUET TICKETS AVAILABLE!
"The food was hot, the glasses full, the speeches short."
-- 3 Mustaphas 3
The big news this time: banquet tickets! One of the delights
of our new hotel is that it has well-prepared, tasty food. A
shocking discovery! Our menu is likely to include: Cheese or
Spanish Omelets, Apple Crepes, Bacon and Sausage, Sesame
Chicken Teriyaki, Green Salad, Spinach Salad, Pasta Salad,
Cheese and Fruit Board, Bread and Pastry Board, Rice Pilaf,
Vegetables, Home Fries, Assorted Desserts, and Coffee or Tea.
Banquet ticket info is below, in the membership form. Thank
you!
After the banquet, you'll want to loosen your belt and enjoy
the fine presentation we're cooking up, then have another
cuppa for the Clarion West Scholarship Fund auction. There
are LOTS of fine items this year.
PROGRAMMING IDEAS PAGE
Among other innovations, this year we have a programming
ideas page, and we'd like to ask you to contribute. We've got
link to it on the main page: http://www.potlatch-sf.org
What you'll see there is the ideas we've come up with, and
ideas people have contributed since the page went live (there
are already a couple!) If you want to participate on or
ringlead a panel, please contact Ulrika O'Brien at
programming@potlatch-sf.org. And if you want to participate
in the discussion end of programming, please sign up for our
discussion email list. Send a blank message to:
p13disc-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
We look forward to hearing from you. One of the great
foundations of Potlatch is participation from all members.
HOW TO JOIN
There are several easy options to join Potlatch 13!
You can join using PayPal on our website. That URL again:

Or, you can print out the form on the website.
HOTEL INFORMATION
For Potlatch 13, we are again using a hotel located near
Seattle Center, the Space Needle, and the Experience Music
Project, just north of downtown on Lower Queen Anne Hill. The
EMP will be the home of the Science Fiction Experience
(http://www.sciencefictionexperience.com/), scheduled to open
in June. There are many nearby restaurants ranging from Junk
Food of All Nations at the Center House, to really good and
varied cuisine both on Queen Anne Hill and downtown. Our
hotel has good rooms and amenities, function space well laid
out for our needs, and a friendly staff.
We even have the same rates as 2002: $79 for single/double
and $99 for triple/quad. These are really great room rates
for downtown Seattle, where most "rack rates" are above $100
even for, uhm, less than wonderful accommodations.
BEST WESTERN EXECUTIVE INN

Fax: 206-441-7929

There is one caveat to having our convention rates:
PLEASE DO NOT USE BEST WESTERN'S ON-LINE RESERVATION
SERVICE OR NATIONAL "800 #" TO MAKE YOUR HOTEL
RESERVATIONS.
Please call in your reservation directly to the hotel (their
own 800 # is listed above) or email them directly (numbers
and email address listed above).
You may want to check out information about the hotel on
their web site, but please use the toll free number above to
reserve your room, and remember to say that you are with
Potlatch. Doing so will assure that we make our room block
and do not have to pay more for function space, which will
cost all of us in terms of the rate we'll have to charge for
Potlatch itself.
If you have questions about the hotel or need help with a
travel- related problem, please email Suzanne Tompkins at
hotel@potlatch- sf.org
