Potlatch 19: March 5-7, 2010

Clarion West Scholarship Auction

The Clarion West Scholarship Auction at Potlatch is a significant fundraiser for the nonprofit Clarion West Writers Workshop. We plan on having a Silent Auction during the day in programming space and a lively oral auction. Last year, the oral Auction was shifted from its traditional Sunday after-the-Banquet spot to Saturday evening. We thought this new time worked well and will try it again.

Please start sending in your auction donations of cool stuff, nifty books, or that character-naming opportunity to this tax-deductible science fiction cause (and, of course, monetary donations are always welcome).

Please email me, Page Fuller, at auction@potlatch-sf.org if you have any questions about what to donate or if you can donate your time and expertise to make this a successful fund raising auction.

Or better yet, take pictures of the items you will bring with you to donate, email me the photo and a description of each item and I can get it in the catalog. Everyone can save on postage and I will collect everything at the con before the auction.

Tiptree Bake Sale

Again this year at Potlatch, we'll be hosting a Tiptree Bake Sale. The proceeds from these events support the James Tiptree, Jr. Award -- "an annual literary prize for science fiction or fantasy that expands or explores our understanding of gender."

If you're interested in baking for the sale, bring anything from candy and cookies to cakes, cheesecakes, and savory nibbles. We'll ask for an ingredient list to go with your item to assist folks with food allergies or sensitivities.

If you're interested in helping but not baking, we could probably use either set-up help or stuff like serving utensils, paper plates and a few loans of display copies of the Tiptree cookbooks (some of us have food-stained versions and would love to display a pristine copy.) Email me and we'll talk.

The sale will take place Saturday in the hospitality suite. The items will be very reasonably priced and all the money goes directly to the Tiptree Literary Award Council.
